Components of the Allied Arts
Greeting/Direction Time
Students are transitioned from their classroom to the designated space for class with the Allied Specialists. When the students reach their instructional space, directions are given using various methods, (e.g. dry erase board, verbal, demonstration, etc.) following the Responsive Classroom approach.
The Responsive Classroom is an approach to elementary teaching that emphasizes social, emotional and academic growth in a strong and safe school community. The goal is to enable optimal student learning. The Responsive Classroom approach is based on the premise that children learn best when they have both academic and social-emotional skills. The approach therefore consists of classroom and school wide pracitces for deliberately helping children build academic and social-emotional competencies.
Art
The mission as an art educator is to encourage lifelong skills in the art disciplines that may instill the love of art that lasts a lifetime. Students will have the opportunity to experience methods and art activities based on studying art histor, cultural art diversity, and artistic competence.
Music
The mission as a music educator is to encourage students to have fun by participating so they can continue some aspect of music in their later lives. Students incorporate singing, dancing and instruments to learn skills and music components.
Physical Education
The mission as a physical educator is to instill enjoyment for students that helps to encourage them to participate in the activity. Students will be introduced to team sports, individual activities, and lifetime experiences. Students will acquire the skills in all areas to instill enjoyment of activities with the intent that they will continue to be active in their adult lives.
Communication
We believe that a child is most successful when their family and school work together to ensure their academic, emotional and social needs are being met. There are many ways families can stay informed about what is happening at school. It is important to keep the lines of communication open at all times. Since we are not in the building every day, please use our contact numbers below on days that we are not at Woodbury. There are opportunities throughout the year for displaying and sharing materials.
